    • HISTORY: THOMAS SCRUGGS (reference I.4), "son of Henry Scruggs by his wife Anne Grose, was bom in New Kent County, Virginia. He married twice, firstly Mitchell, a sister of Valentine Mitchell. He married secondly Juday Buford. Thomas Scruggs moved from New Kent County to Buckingham County and settled just prior to his death in Cumberland, where his will was dated April 26, 1788, in which he mentions his wife, his son Drury and his grandson Finch Scruggs, and 'my other children.' The will is signed, sealed and delivered in the presence of Thomas Scrugs [sic], Obedier Scrugs [sic], William Anderson." (Dunklin, p.25; See also p.23.)

      Dunklin does not distinguish which wife had the 5 children mentioned by Dunklin.

      Note: Dunklin and other researchers have posited that Thomas was married a second time, to “Juday Buford” and may have had one son by her. Several researchers on ancestry.com posit that they married on March 1, 1787; he would have been around 93 years of age. It seems to me to be suspicious that his grandson, Thomas3, married Judith Buford on the same day. This second marriage of Thomas1 needs more research.
