John and his brother, Adolph, moved to Alberta where they lived with their families. In 1917, Michael and Maria retired from the farm, renting it to John Killer [sic] (Koller??). They bought several acres of land near St. Gerard School and built a set of buildings on what is now the Gerhard Praschner place. Here they could attend daily mass and enjoy their retirement. In 1923 (after her husband's death), Maria, together with Laura Doll, had the house moved into Oriska, where she lived until her death in 1942.

John came to Canada in 1908.
