    NOTE: in 1912, Tom tried to cross into the US. His border-crossing card says "debarred", "infancy", "not 16 years old". Tom was only 15 and his trip to the border was paid for by his father, according to the Border-Crossing card. May not be true, of course. He was 5'3-1/2", blule eyes, light brown hair, short, medium build.

    Died:
    Family tradition believes that he died in a lumber camp near Seattle, Washington in an accident. He worked as a tree-topper.

    When James was born in May 1862, he was named Alexander. However, in September 1862, his parents formally changed his name to James Strachan.
    In 1911, the enumerator has James' name as John. This could be a simple mistake.
    In 1921, the index says the name is James Stephen but the census record does say James Strachan.

    Immigration:
    Immigration records have not been found to date (Aug.2015). Immigration location is unknown.

    Buried in Nakusp Cemetery, Nakusp, Central Kootenay Regional District, British Columbia, Canada. Findagrave Memorial# 71343979.

    The spelling of Morison in the various censuses for the family varies from Morison to Morrison to Morrisson. This appears to be the choice of the enumerator.

    Birth date may be October 1830. From "Scotland, Births and Baptisms", one index says the christening date if 18 Oct 1830; another says it was November 21, 1830.

    Morse Family Tree on ancestry.com (Aug.2018) states that John died January 7, 1907 in Chambly, Quebec, Canada.
