Bio: Frank G. Hovis Jr.Farmer/construction company owner
Frank G. Hovis Jr., 79, of Risingsun, died in the Medical College of Ohio Hospital, Toledo, at 3:05 p.m. Saturday, April 25, 1998.He was born in Helena, May 8, 1918, to Frank G. and Hazel E. (Ritchey) Hovis Sr. On Dec. 22, 1936, in Ft. Wayne, Ind., he married Betty J. Frazier. She survives. Other survivors include: three sons, John A. and Ronald J. Hovis, both of Risingsun, and Donald A. Hovis of Bradner; a daughter, Leone M. James of Valley Falls, Kan.; a sister, Phyllis Preston of Lexington, Ky.; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were: a sister, Mary Barth; a brother, Richard Hovis; and a granddaughter. A World War II U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the South Pacific, Mr. Hovis owned and operated Hovis and Son's Construction for 49 years and also was engaged in farming. He was a member of both the Fremont Eagles and Elks, Welker-Smith American Legion Post 17, Gibsonburg, the Sandusky County Sportsman Club, where he was a life member, and the Risingsun Volunteer Fire Department. Services in Risingsun First Church of God will be 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Paul Rutledge and Dr. Darrell Prichard officiating. Burial will be in Scott-Trinity Cemetery, Sandusky County, Scott Township. Visitation at the Barndt Funeral Home, Wayne, is 7-9 p.m. today and 2-9 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The body also will lie in state one hour before the services at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the church, Risingsun Volunteer Fire Department, American Heart Association or to a charity of the donor's choice.
